Olive trees: Olive trees are considered as a cultural heritage of Northern Cyprus that is more than eight hundred years old. Olive trees may not be the first attraction in North Cyprus, but they are definitely a blessing for the people of this island. These ancient trees grow in the village of Kalkanli on the northwest coast outside of Guzelyurt, believed to have been planted in the 11th century. This area is a natural heritage site and is a very popular attraction for visitors. Unfortunately, a huge fire occurred on May 17, 2020, which destroyed tens of thousands of agricultural products and forests. About 5,000 hectares of agricultural land and forests have been destroyed and about 90% of the areas and 2,000 historical olive trees have been burned as well.
Turtles: Cyprus is home to nesting various turtles such as chelonia mydas, which are considered as endangered species. Golden and Ronnas Beach along the Karpas Peninsula and Alagadi on the west coast are the nesting places of turtles in the last month of April until the end of September every year. The best time to observe turtle ovulation is early June, and the hatching of baby turtles in late August and early September is very worth seeing.
Wild Donkeys: Undoubtedly, wild donkeys have a special place among the animals of Northern Cyprus. These donkeys, which are descendants of African wild donkeys, were domesticated around 4000 BC. In the past, donkeys played an important role in agriculture in the Karpas Peninsula to carry olives from the groves and grain from the fields to the mills, so that most families often had one or two of them. However, in the 1970s, the industrial machines replaced donkeys and eventually they returned to their nature.

This famous trail, consisting of 18 routes and 260 km long, goes from Cape Kormakitis on the west coast to Cape Zafar at the tip of the Karpas Peninsula in the north-east of the island, famous for its golden beaches and wild donkeys.
